Brent Marks sets record in Eldora wins
NEW WESTON, Ohio — Just call him King Brent the 39th.
Brent Marks’ epic season continued as he dominated at Eldora Speedway, winning not only the 39th running of the King’s Royal, but also the Historical Big One for a whopping $275,000 payday in two races.
It was the first Historical Big One held in 19 years. He’s the seventh driver in sprint car racing history to win both races, but the first to win them in the same season. Steve Kinser won and finished second twice two different times back when both races were being held.
Following his Pennsylvania Speedweek championship, Marks said he was really excited about getting back to Eldora. Marks also won the Governor’s Reign in 2020 — the race held in place of the King’s Royal due to the crowd restrictions that were in place at the time.
It is a second King’s Royal crown for his crew chief Heath Moyle, of Middleburg, Pa. Moyle was part of Larson Marks Racing when Shane Stewart won the rain-delayed Royal in 2017.
Marks, of Myerstown, has tremendous confidence in his car right now and is very comfortable and the results have been nothing short of amazing.
Marks joins fellow Pennsylvanians Donnie Kreitz (1986) as a King’s Royal winner and the late Kevin Gobrecht as an HBO winner (1999).
His stats are incredible.
He’s won 13 races at eight different speedways. When he’s not winning, he’s almost always on the podium — nine of his last 18 starts are wins and 16 of those 18 ended on the podium (three runners-up and four thirds).
In Central PA, Marks has three wins at Williams Grove, including the Morgan Cup in May against the Outlaws, and two wins each at Port Royal and Lincoln. He also won the Speedweek stop at Hagerstown Speedway.
He’s won Outlaw races all over the country. He won at Devil’s Bowl in Texas and Knoxville Raceway in Iowa and added Eldora to the list now with his two huge wins last weekend.
Marks won the Ohio Speedweek finale at Portsmouth.
He’ll look to continue his dream season this weekend with three races in central PA against the Outlaws beginning Wednesday night at Port Royal followed by the Summer Nationals at Williams Grove Friday and Saturday. Marks is the defending Summer Nationals champion.
At the end of last season, after forming Murray-Marks Racing, he quickly won three races, including Cherokee in South Carolina, the Dirt Track at Charlotte and the season finale at BAPS.
Danny Dietrich, Anthony Macri, Logan Wagner and T.J. Stutts also represented the PA Posse at Eldora. Macri had two top-10 finishes. Wagner raced from last to 12th one night. Dietrich blew a motor and was involved in a nasty crash during the King’s Royal B-main.
Macri still leads the nation with 16 wins followed by Marks’ 13.
