Can’t see the forest for the trees

To the editor: It is nice when a conservative stirs a liberal to the point where the liberal shows how shallow he is. Many of our country’s liberal Democrats seem to always accuse conservatives of being easily influenced souls who cannot think for themselves. Disputes history of gun violence

To the editor: This letter is in response to Mr. Spahr’s letter that appeared in The Sentinel on Aug. 11. Mr. Spahr asserts that the main topic of my letter was the hypocrisy laden policy of the left being “Gun deaths bad — vacuum abortions good.” No one on the left, including myself, thinks that abortion is good. I do think that decisions about a woman’s body should be between a woman and her doctor and not the government. A dilemma for every decade

To the editor: Each decade has its own dilemma! In 1961 the threat of nuclear war was at 7th Ward elementary school. My fellow students and I were told to go into the hallway, remove sharp objects from our pockets, sit with our backs against the wall, put our head between our knees and our arms over our heads. I remember being concerned but not terrorized. Later in the ’60s there was Vietnam and we put a man on the moon. The ’70s had the gas crisis, sky high inflation and Vietnam finally ended. To the editor: Once again blatant untruths are being spread on The Sentinel’s opinion page. The latest are in Mr. Spahr’s letter of Friday, Aug. 19, in which he states that 86,000 new IRS agents are coming for your hard-earned wages. No vacation from illegal immigration

To the editor: I don’t live near the southern border, in fact, I live in Mifflin County. But at this point, I couldn’t ignore the crisis at the border even if I tried. Twenty-four hours in the news cycle rarely go by without some tragedy related to the border making headlines. The news of the abandoned tractor-trailer with over 60 people inside astonished me. Pressed against the walls and each other, waiting in the dark and praying to be let out, they were marooned with no ventilation, food or water.
