Can’t support college loan payoff

2 min read

To the editor:

I disagree with Biden's giving anyone $10,000 toward their college debt, especially then he wants to put me and others like me on the hook for the bill. I will explain why I feel this way.

First of all, in my entire life, and I have been walking God's earth for over 76 years, I have never left a bill or a loan that I did not pay off entirely. The Government never made my payments for me with the exception of about three months' worth of a correspondence course in electronics, paid for by the GI Bill.

I earned that with my service in the Army. Even then Uncle Sam was late making the payments and the school was crying for their money and since at the time I couldn't afford it on my own, I quit before I got in any deeper. Then Uncle Sam came up with the money.

Secondly, in the flood in 1972 after the water went down the government gave flood victims a $5,000 grant. Unfortunately my loss was $20,000. I could have borrowed more money but since I lost my job at the same time I felt I couldn't afford to do that.

Thirdly, I was given a $300 Vietnam bonus for the year I spent in Vietnam. I definitely earned that an so did everyone else that served.

So all in all I don't feel that the government ever gave me anything I didn't earn. I get sick and tired of Democrats giving away money to try and buy votes before an election, especially when they give me the bill and I do not agree with the way they are running the Country.
