Regional police handle 519 incidents in August

LEWISTOWN — The Mifflin County Regional Police Department responded to 519 incident reports during August, including 29 motor vehicle crashes, according to the department’s monthly statistics. Officers investigated 21 theft or fraud incidents and one assault during the month. Police also issued 80 traffic citations, five non-traffic citations and 38 warnings. Six arrests for driving under the influence were made during August. The Mifflin County Regional Police Department serves Burnham Borough and Brown, Derry and Union townships.

VA awards $44.7M to fight veteran homelessness in Pa.

ALTOONA — The Department of Veterans Affairs has awarded nearly $44.7 million in grants to Pennsylvania community organizations to assist veterans who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. The funding, totaling $44,696,208 for fiscal year 2027, is part of a record $1.17 billion awarded to 680 organizations nationwide. Mount Nittany, union ratify new three-year contract

STATE COLLEGE — Mount Nittany Medical Center and SEIU Healthcare Pennsylvania have finalized a new three-year collective bargaining agreement that includes wage increases, new paid parental leave and additional workplace safety measures. LEWISTOWN — A Lewistown man accused of firing 21 shots at five people outside a Logan Street bar is being held without bail in Lancaster County Prison after his capture following a Pennsylvania Turnpike pursuit.
