ALTOONA -- The Department of Veterans Affairs has awarded nearly $44.7 million in grants to Pennsylvania community organizations to assist veterans who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.
The funding, totaling $44,696,208 for fiscal year 2027, is part of a record $1.17 billion awarded to 680 organizations nationwide.
Funding through the VA's Supportive Services for Veteran Families program will help prevent veterans from losing their homes, locate suitable housing and rapidly rehouse veterans and their families experiencing homelessness.
Additional funding through the Grant and Per Diem program will support transitional housing and services, including programs for women veterans and veterans who are chronically mentally ill, frail or elderly.
"VA medical centers across Pennsylvania remain committed to ensuring Veterans have access to safe, stable housing and the supportive services they need to thrive," said David DiGiacomo, interim medical center director of the James E. Van Zandt VA Medical Center.
