I-80 preservation project begins Tuesday
From staff reports
CLEARFIELD — A $13.4 million Interstate 80 preservation project in Centre and Clinton counties is scheduled to begin Tuesday, July 14, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.
The project covers approximately 12.5 miles of I-80 between mile markers 164 and 171 in Marion Township, Centre County, and Porter Township, Clinton County. Work is designed to improve ride quality, extend the roadway’s service life and enhance safety through the installation of Intelligent Transportation Systems devices.
Beginning Tuesday, motorists should expect rolling, alternating lane closures in both eastbound and westbound lanes while crews survey concrete joints, mark repair locations and install advance traffic control signs. The closures will alternate between the passing and travel lanes through Friday, July 24.
PennDOT said a long-term lane closure on eastbound I-80 is expected to begin Sunday, July 26, when crews start concrete patching, milling and paving operations.
The project also includes concrete repairs, guide rail upgrades, line painting and other miscellaneous construction. HRI Inc., of State College, is the contractor.
Work is expected to continue through November before resuming during the 2027 construction season. PennDOT noted that the schedule is weather dependent and subject to change.
