Employer workshop seminar June 30 in Lewistown

LEWISTOWN — The Juniata Valley Employer Advisory Council will present an employer workshop seminar on the Family Medical Leave Act with guest speaker attorneys Kelley Kaufman and John Baker. The seminar is Tuesday, June 30 from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. at PA CareerLink Mifflin County, 6395 Rte. 103 N., MCIDC Plaza Building 58, Lewistown.

The presentation will focus on real world scenarios involving employee leave issues, including the Family Medical Leave Act, the Americans With Disabilities Act and the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act.

The cost of this seminar is $40 per person. Cash or check is accepted. Make checks payable to J/V EAC and bring to the seminar. Check-in is at 8:30 a.m. The presentation is at 9 a.m. Powerpoint will be provided to all attendees. A pick up and go bag lunch will be provided.

Civil War Round Table meeting set June 2

STATE COLLEGE — The Central PA Civil War Round Table will host a presentation on “Pennsylvania at the Battle of Stones River” during its next meeting Tuesday, June 2, in the Activities Room of the South Hills School of Business & Technology, 480 Waupelani Drive, State College.

The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. and feature speaker Dan Masters of Perrysburg, Ohio, author of 15 books on Civil War history. His latest book, “Hell by the Acre: A Narrative History of the Stones River Campaign,” received awards from the Atlanta Civil War Round Table and the Mahoning Valley Civil War Round Table.

The Battle of Stones River, fought in Tennessee from Dec. 31, 1862, to Jan. 2, 1863, was one of the bloodiest battles of the Civil War in terms of casualties.

Writers’ Network to host open reading night

STATE COLLEGE — The Nittany Valley Writers’ Network will host an open reading night Tuesday, June 9, at Schlow Library’s Community Room, 211 S. Allen St., State College.

Doors will open at 6 p.m., with readings beginning at 6:30 p.m. Writers of all experience levels are invited to attend and may bring a short writing sample to share. Community members are also welcome to attend as listeners.

The event is free and open to the public.

The Nittany Valley Writers’ Network is a community organization that connects local writers of all genres and experience levels.
