Bridge maintenance, cleaning expected this week

From staff reports

LEWISTOWN — Pennsylvania Department of Transportation crews will perform a range of maintenance work across Mifflin County this week, with additional projects planned in neighboring Juniata County.

In Mifflin County, work will focus heavily on bridge maintenance and roadway repairs through May 8.

Bridge cleaning and maintenance is scheduled on several major routes, including Route 3006 (Juniata Street) from May 4 to 6 and Route 322 through May 8, where drivers should expect single-lane closures. Additional bridge work is planned on Route 22 Business west of Lewistown, Route 3002 (East Charles Street) over Kishacoquillas Creek in Lewistown Borough, and Route 3001 (Main Street).

Crack sealing work will take place on Route 655 between the Huntingdon County line in Menno Township and Church Hill Road in Brown Township on May 7 and 8, as well as along Route 4004 (Front Mountain Road/Middle Road) between the Huntingdon County line in Menno Township and Wills Road in Union Township from May 4 to 6.

Patching is also planned on Route 522 between Logan Street and Lincoln Avenue in Lewistown on May 6 and 7 and along Route 3001 (Main Street) on May 8.

PennDOT said these maintenance efforts are part of routine work to extend the life of roadways and bridges, many of which are more than 50 years old.

In nearby Juniata County, crews will conduct crack sealing on Route 3008 (Groninger Valley Road) between Spruce Hill Road in Beale Township and Route 75 in Turbett Township from May 6 to 8.

Patching is scheduled on Route 235 between Dimmsville Road in Greenwood Township and Route 333 in Delaware Township on May 4, and on Route 2006 (Cedar Springs Road/Cedar Street) between South Main Street in Mifflintown and Long Road in Walker Township on May 5.

Pipe replacement and cleaning will take place on Route 3023 (Pumping Station Road) from May 4 to 6 and on Route 3020 (Barton Hollow Road) from May 7 to 8.

Motorists should expect flaggers in work zones throughout both counties, and in some cases pilot vehicles will be used to guide traffic.

PennDOT reminds drivers to use caution in work zones and follow posted signage. All work is weather dependent and subject to change.

Starting at $2.99/week.
