New Lancaster Fire Co. holds open house

MILROY — Want to get an up-close look at first responder equipment? You have that chance at the New Lancaster Valley Fire Co.’s Third Annual Open House on Saturday.

From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., members of the fire company will be on site to show you around, and the kids can get their pictures taken with the rigs. There will also be light refreshments at the station, located at 3712 New Lancaster Valley Road in Milroy, as well as t-shirts for sale and 50/50 drawings and raffles.

10th annual McClure Bacon Fest and Piggy Trot

The 10th annual McClure Bacon Fest, a sizzling celebration of all things bacon, is set for Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Station Park in McClure. Admission is free. Enjoy a day filled with delicious treats and handmade crafts from more than 150 vendor spaces and family-friendly activities including an inflatable fun zone. There’s also a beverage garden for ages 21 and up. The day starts with the Piggy Trot. Registration starts at 8:30 a.m. and the fun steps off at 9 a.m. After the Piggy Trot, pig out on some bacon.

Mini-golf fundraiser at Juniata County Library

The Juniata County Library, 498 Jefferson St., Mifflintown, hosts a mini-golf fundraiser from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Tickets cost $25. Friday is adult night, with a maximum of 40 tickets for the 6 and 7 p.m. time slots. Saturday is Family Day, so bring the kids for the fun. The course will wind throughout the library.

Mapleton celebrates America250

Mapleton will celebrate America’s 250th Birthday on Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with its first treasure hunt event. Visit nine historic sites in the community. The Mapleton Historical Society will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Check out the Spring Family Festival Mapleton Legion from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Spring Family Festival

Sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 322, a Spring Family Festival will be held on Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be craft vendors, chicken barbecue, bake sale, magician and free kids’ activities. Plus, see the new Huntingdon County Liberty Bell, to be displayed at 6099 Old Route 322, Milroy.

Handicap Trout Derby in Thompsontown

AMVETS J.E. Bowen Jr. Post 122 Thompsontown is holding its Annual Handicap Trout Derby, along Route 333 in Thompsontown, on Saturday, from 9 to 11 a.m. This derby is open to all ages. Trophies will be awarded.
