LEWISTOWN — Temperatures hovering around freezing and cloudy skies, with a possible flurry in the forecast? Sounds like a perfect day to hold this year’s holiday open house at Greenwood Furnace State Park in Huntingdon.
Enjoy holiday-themed activities and music at the Huntingdon County state park’s annual event on Sunday, from 1 to 4 p.m.
Admission to the event is free and open to all ages. There will also be carriage rides, sponsored by MCS Bank, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.
“Bring out the family, have fun and get in the holiday spirit with a visit from Santa,” said Jen Moore, environmental education specialist at Greenwood Furnace State Park, located on Greenwood Road
in Huntingdon.
“While you are here, don’t forget a carriage ride to see the toy display and listen to music at the Blacksmith Shop,” Moore added.
Other activities include make and take crafts and ornaments, toys of the past presentation with the Metzel family, music, refreshments with homemade cookies provided by the Stone Valley Community Charter School and, of course, no holiday event would be complete without a visit from Santa Claus.
The Blacksmith Shop, Visitor Center and Gift Shop will also be open during the open house. A $2 donation per person or $5 per family is encouraged. Proceeds benefit the Friends of Greenwood Furnace State Park toward future park projects.
