Festival, Country Memories Day highlight weekend slate

The 38th Annual Country Memories Day is slated for Saturday in McVeytown.

Whether you are feeling festive or patriotic this Memorial Day weekend, there are plenty of events to get you in the holiday spirit.

Whether it’s bringing back the East Waterford’s Fireman’s Festival on the East Waterford Carnival Grounds or the 38th Annual Country Memories Day in McVeytown, there’s plenty to do with red, white and blue.

Check out these things to do:

The East Waterford’s Fireman’s Festival is back as it’s set for 10 a.m. Saturday on the East Waterford Carnival Grounds, 6201 Route 75, East Waterford. Expect food, games, touch a truck, vendors and flea market, parade and more in the making. Plus, enjoy homemade ice cream, which will be sold by the scoop and quart.

Country Memories Day will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, as the annual tradition includes demonstrating artisans, food trucks, crafts and more from more than 100 small businesses, live music on the square, roaming magician and a car show on Queen Street. Plus, there’ll be free face painting and a petting zoo for the kids.

Race to Breakfast

The Race to Breakfast will be held at the Port Royal Lutheran Church, 402 Market St., Port Royal, on Saturday, from 7 to 10 a.m. Come out for a delicious breakfast on race day with pancakes, eggs, French toast casserole, cream dried beef, sausage, bacon, toast, coffee and juice. There will also be a basket raffle and baked goods available. The cost is $10 for ages 14 and up, $7 for ages 5 to 13 and free for under age 5. Proceeds support a local driver.

Memorial Races

Port Royal Speedway, 308 W. Eighth St., Port Royal, will honor the families of veterans who were killed in action as part of the Bob Weikert Memorial finale on Sunday. Each participating family will receive free admission to the event, recognition in a pre-race ceremony prior to the A-Main event and the opportunity to meet one of the drivers.
