Lewistown borough manager resigns

Council reorganizes

LEWISTOWN — The resignation of Lewistown Borough’s Manager — Kim Zimmerman — was approved during a special council meeting held Wednesday morning.

The action was made after more than an hour-long executive session in a 5-1 vote, with councilman Jim Steele dissenting.

Council members Matt Moore, Robert Barlett, Steve Knudson, Lisa Knudson and Scott Gutshall were in favor of the motion. Larry Searer was absent from the meeting.

The board appointed Somer Weiss as the interim borough manager.

In a written statement, the borough noted that the change in management put “emphasis on moving the borough in a new direction.”

Moore also said after the meeting that the change was a cost-cutting measure.

“It was an honor working for the citizens of the borough of Lewistown,” Zimmerman said after the meeting.

Prior to the executive session, the council reorganized officer positions, naming Moore as president and Barlettt as vice president.

Steele formerly had served as president and Searer served as vice president.

One resident, Frank Berrier, encouraged council to refocus its attention on the borough.

“I’ve been watching our national politics and it seems all Trump and Harris want to do is badmouth each other. I hear nothing about policy — not much about what’s going to make my life any better…I just urge council to leave the personalities at the door and give more thought to what you do to make the borough a better place for us all.”

Also during the meeting, the board agreed to advertise the borough manager position at a rate of pay of $70,000-75,000.

Starting at $3.75/week.
