Library closed on New Year’s holiday
LEWISTOWN — All branches of the Mifflin County Library will be closed on Monday, Jan. 1 for New Year’s Day. Both Branches will reopen on Tuesday, Jan. 2. The Lewistown branch opens at 9 a.m. and the Kish branch opens at noon.

State police investigate over 400 crashes
HARRISBURG — Pennsylvania State Police released its annual Christmas holiday crash and enforcement report, which included 198 arrests of people who drove under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Over the three-day period of Saturday, Dec. 23 through Monday, Dec. 25, Pennsylvania State Police investigated 404 crashes, in which three individuals died and 70 others were injured. Alcohol was a factor in 36 of those crashes.
Troopers also issued 1,036 speeding citations, 123 citations for failing to wear a seat belt and 22 citations for not securing children in safety seats.

With New Year’s Eve celebrations coming up, state police will once again be on the lookout for impaired, aggressive, and distracted drivers. Pennsylvania State Police remind people to plan ahead for a safe ride home, especially if your holiday plans involve alcohol.
