LEBANON — Eleven students from Mifflin County Christian Academy have been selected to sing this weekend in the All-State Choir in Lebanon. The choir is an annual presentation of the Keystone Christian Education Association (KCEA).
The students from MCCA are Lilly Todd, Madisyn Baumgardner, Samantha Mitchell, Sarah Peachey, Jude Gisewhit, Cora Gentzel, Megan Weuant, Elle H, Malachi Angney, Elijah Angney and Alexys Albert.
“All State Choir is a great opportunity for these young people to develop their talents,” Mifflin County Christian Academy Administrator Craig Todd said. “KCEA brings in a special choir director from around the country each year to work with the students, so they are getting quality teaching from a seasoned director.”
The KCEA All-State Choir was first assembled in 1992. This year, more than 120 students from Christian schools across Pennsylvania got to work with a guest director David Ledgerwood from Maranatha Baptist University prior to the performance today.
“The students get to meet many other students from around the state and make some new friendships,” Todd said. “But the greatest part of the whole experience is to listen to all the voices come together and sing during the performance.”
Schools receive updates for the choir during the summer. Interested students learn the choral music before auditioning in mid- to late October. Schools are then notified of the results in early November, with invited students spending three days of focused music learning in a Bible-centered setting.
MCCA students sent audition tapes prior to being chosen for the choir.
“For years, the performance has taken place at the State Capitol in Harrisburg, but COVID [changed the location],” Todd said. “Hopefully, next year they will be back at the Capitol where they sing in the Rotunda, which is also an amazing experience.”
The All-State Choir performs today at 1 p.m. at God’s Missionary Church in Lebanon.
