Second Annual East Waterford Firemen’s Festival set for May 26
EAST WATERFORD — Fire engines, food stands and festival crowds will fill the East Waterford carnival grounds on Sunday, May 26, as the East Waterford Volunteer Fire Co. hosts its Second Annual Firemen’s Festival from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Organizers say this year’s event will be bigger, busier and even more community-driven than its debut.
Held at the East Waterford carnival grounds on R.F. Love Avenue and Horse Valley Road, the festival serves as both a fundraiser for the fire company and a chance to bring neighbors together at the start of summer. With food, music, kids’ activities and a growing lineup of vendors, the event is designed to offer something for every age.
One of the biggest draws is the festival’s expanding Fire Zone, an interactive area where children can meet local firefighters, explore equipment and learn about fire safety in a hands-on way. Alongside it, the popular Touch a Truck experience will return, giving kids the chance to climb into fire engines, utility vehicles, work trucks and more.
“We’re really hoping for more participation in the Touch a Truck this year,” organizers said in a social media post. “It’s an awesome thing for the kids and a great way for businesses and departments to get their name out there.”
The festival will also feature a Truck, Car and Motorcycle Show, open to anyone who wants to display a vehicle. As with most of the day’s activities, participation is free.
For families, the grounds will include bounce houses, games and plenty of space for kids to run and explore. For adults, the festival offers a growing list of craft and flea market vendors, with spots available at no cost. Organizers say they are still actively seeking additional vendors and welcome anyone interested in setting up a table.
Food remains a major part of the day, with the fire company preparing its signature barbecue chicken, along with other festival favorites. Visitors can grab lunch, browse vendors and enjoy live entertainment throughout the afternoon.
Music will be provided by Make Mine Country, bringing a mix of classic and modern country hits, along with MifflinExpress Entertainment, which will keep the grounds lively with DJ sets between performances.
With the Port Royal Speedway just a short drive away, organizers are encouraging race-day travelers to “stop by on your way to the racetrack” and support the fire company before heading out for the evening’s events.
While the festival continues to grow, organizers emphasize that the event remains flexible as planning continues.’
“Times and details are subject to change at any needed point,” organizers added. “We’re always open to recommendations. Let us know what you want to see.”
The fire company opted not to hold a parade this year, focusing instead on strengthening the festival’s core attractions — the Fire Zone, Touch a Truck, vendors, food and entertainment.
With just weeks to go, volunteers say excitement is building.
“The festival is coming fast,” organizers said. “There’s going to be a lot to do, so we hope everyone marks it down and brings the kiddos.”
