JCSD encourages early enrollment

MIFFLINTOWN — Parents of students who will be enrolling in the Juniata County School District in the fall — either as a first-time student or students who attended elsewhere during the 2020-21 school year — are encouraged to begin the enrollment process now. Kindergarten registration is open to any child who will be five years of age on or before Sept. 1, 2021.

Enrollment packets are available by contacting Polly Digon at the district’s administrative office, 146 Weatherby Way, Mifflintown; via email at pdigon@jcsdk12.org; or by calling (717) 436-2111, ext. 5002.

Proof of residency must accompany all returned enrollment forms. Acceptable documents include a property tax form, deed, lease, or letter on apartment complex or mobile home park letterhead, signed by the landlord; or two of the following: utility bills, bank statement, unemployment/employment check; vehicle registration, driver’s license or Department of Transportation identification card.

Documents required for first-time enrollees include proof of age (birth certificate, passport, baptismal certificate or prior school records) and proof of immunization status (physician’s statement/record of immunization or letter/statement of exemption).

Parents are encouraged to review the immunization status of their child and contact their family doctor or clinic if all required immunizations have not been completed.

Military museum to host showcase

BOALSBURG — The Pennsylvania Military Museum amd 28th Division Shrine is hosting another installment of “What’s in a Theme?,” a virtual collections showcase, a 7 p.m. Tuesday via Zoom.

Museum professionals from Drake Well Museum, Erie Maritime Museum, Daniel Boone Homestead, Landis Valley Museum and the Pennsylvania Military Museum will be presenting and discussing objects from their collections that relate to the shared theme of “Souvenirs and Swag.”

Each site will have five minutes to make the case as to why their object best embodies the theme. Then, the audience will vote for their favorite. The winning site will get to host a future episode of this program and select a theme of their choice. Virtual collections showcase programs will happen on a regular basis throughout 2021.
