‘Experts’ don’t always get everything right To the editor: A recent letter to the editor asked the question why be bigoted towards transgender people? Why be bigoted toward transgender people?

To the editor: In the newspaper there have been a couple of letters published that have shown bigotry toward a transgender person and to the LGBQT+ community as a whole. Those letters were published on April 21 and April 22. In those letters especially in the letter published on April 22, the person intentionally used the wrong gender. Let me ask that writer how would she feel if someone in a published letter used the wrong sex to identify her. It would probably make her mad. Hershey’s service will be missed in Mifflin County

To the editor: Pa. State Representative John Hershey’s office helped me through every step of a difficult process to obtain my rent rebate. The first year, I couldn’t file because of a former 401(k) that I don’t have any more. I was getting letters from the IRS and I was scared and didn’t know what to do. His staff walked me through each step. I was not aware there was this type of service locally. To the editor: Republicans have an important choice in our upcoming primary. From what I gather about Dr. Mehmet Oz, he is an intelligent man, a doctor and well known TV talk show host. His show won nine Emmy awards, was very popular and had many fans. Kellyanne Conway, a senior counselor to President Trump said he and Dr. Oz have been friends for a long time. Why did Hollis only focus on one ‘Lie of the Year’? To the editor: In the latest column from Laura Hollis (“Campaign Against Misinformation Is Disinformation”) she points out that statements made by former President Obama about the Affordable Care Act (e.g., “If you like your health care plan, you can keep it”) were named by Politifact as the 2013 “Lie of the Year.” Given Ms. Hollis’ concern for the spread of misinformation and disinformation in the media, I was heartened to see that she regards Politifact (which is a fact-checking organization) as a reliable ...
