Why are you so worried about trans people?

2 min read

To the editor:

In response to Michael Spahr's letter printed May 11, 2022 I have to ask what is your obsession with the exceeding rare and marginalized trans community? Thou doth protest too much, my neighbor. I know several trans people from my time in the real world, outside of this land that seems to be your self imposed bubble of "beliefs," and honestly, I spend less time, energy, thought, or concern for how they might affect others than you do!

Why do you care? What part of you is so fragile that makes you think that exposure to other people's life experience will somehow change you in some other way than simply broadening your personal life journey? I'm thinking you really need to do some introspection and self-reflection. The last time I knew someone spending so much time obsessed (he couldn't stop talking about which of our fellow sailors were gay and how bothered he was by them) he turned out to be the embodiment of that he repeatedly railed against.

"What do (I) expect when a non-LBGTQ person is confronted with what they don't believe to be true, with what they have known all their lives to be facts?" What do I expect? I expect you to mind your own business! You might actually learn something. Who knows, you might actually gain a new friend that could expand your world understanding.

Answer me this, if it is that you are confronted with what you do not believe is true, how can you continue to "believe" that it is not true? You were just confronted with it.

"Normal is not confused. Abnormal is!" Please Mr. Spahr, tell me who falls into your definition of "normal" and whom do you classify as "abnormal?" Normal is a setting on a washing machine!

Judging by your writings, I would say you are the confused one as that you seem to think that what you believe and/or think should have any effect on others.

What you think is just that... your thoughts! If you have a problem with how others live their lives, here is a suggestion, keep it to yourself!
