Belief in something does not make it true
To the editor:
I stand by my comment that if you show me a Republican, I will show you a fool or a liar. The letters to the editor printed May 13 and 14 prove my point. The information bubble that the right lives in fails them in what it does not say in as much as what it does say. For decades the right has worked to convince their "base" that the only reliable source of information is that which is force fed to them by the rich and powerful with an unending message of "they are lying and therefore you should never listen to them." Who are they and what are the lies?
The primary difference between Democrats and Republicans these days is that the left listens to the right while the right "believes" they know what the left is saying. Unfortunately the problem with believing is that it is not knowing. The truth is that us "local liberals" don't care what you believe! Your beliefs are just that, yours. The cult that is now the party of MAGA needs to learn the fact that just because you believe something does not make it true.
When I say that Republicans lie, I can point to thousands of examples, specifically. We can start from long before the twice impeached, serial adulterer, disgraced former president started lying about stolen elections which enabled his "believers" to, as they say out loud, work to "overturn" the election. Any rational human should hear those words and know that that means they are lying about it being stolen. You would not need to "overturn" something if it was legitimately won! But as we know, free thinking requires the simple act of listening and that is a foreign concept for people that treat the meaning of words to be whatever you want them to mean in the moment.
I can't understand how it is that in the same "news" program of the right, we hear them complain that "they" want to cancel "you" but an all out boycott of Disney is not canceling. How does a Republican reconcile in their brain that the Jan. 6 people in jail are political prisoners but the violence was committed by Antifa? Or was it BLM infiltrators? Or wait, was it a peaceful protest with tourists exercising their first amendment rights? You people can literally hear two contradictory thought within minutes of each other and not give pause to the fact that at least one of the statements has to be false or misleading. Yet you think you are a free thinker, unbelievable.
John Brittain's letter was a beautiful example of how the gas lighting of the right has you "believing" an upside down reality. Everything you are accusing the left of is actually happening by the right and what you "believe" the right stands for is actually being opposed by Republicans and fought for by Democrats. It amazes me how utterly uninformed anyone could be to think that Republicans are not for big business and are somehow looking out for the working people? What planet do you live on?
If Republicans cared about the working class and/or "babies" they would not be voting against; a living wage, universal healthcare, child tax credits, paid maternity leave, family medical leave, affordable life saving drugs drugs, universal pre-K and expanding public education to include community college, affordable child and elder care, or anything else that would help families and the working class.
If you truly believed life begins at conception you would be fighting for; child support to start at that moment, the unborn American "babies" in the uterus of immigrants must have full constitutional protections as a citizen, the mother being able to claim that zygote as a dependent on her taxes, the avalibility of life insurance benefits and separate medical insurance for the zygote, and so on and so forth in providing all the same rights afforded to an actual baby and mother of the born.
Oh, wait the mother has fewer rights as that the government want to tell her that her body has less value than the ball of cells she does not want. But, be honest, the right does not care about anyone outside the womb! They only care about the rich and the profits they crave.
I have said it before and I will say it again that one party in this country cares abut people, the other cares about money. If you change the channel on occasion, you'll easily know which party is which. Do yourself a favor and stop believing and learn to know. Facts do not care about your beliefs, nor do I, and I hope we could all agree that the government most defiantly should not either!
