Elected officials should represent the people For whatever reason(s), Pennsylvania’s financial condition improved so much recently that Gov. Tom Wolf and the State’s Legislature passed legislation cutting the State’s corporate income tax rate from 9.99% to 4.99% by the year 2032. Is this a good idea? No! Why not? The state’s governor, senators and representatives are elected by the people to represent the people, not just the corporations. It would have been better to cut the State’s 6% sales tax rate to 3%. This would have given taxpayers more money to buy additional goods ...

Only fools and Democrats trust everything the government tells them. Social security today is an abstract from its inception, not for the better. Hearing groans, then crickets When it comes to the conservatives and the 86,000 IRS agents that they seem to think will be immediately hired, they are wrong. Those 86,000 IRS agents are going to replace the IRS agents who will either retire or leave in the next 10 years. And for people like the author of the letter published on Saturday, Jan. 28, they will not all be carrying guns, only 2-3% of them will. IRS is not coming for your hard-earned pay To the editor: The arguments in Michael Spahr’s letter to the editor of Jan. 28 are based on the false premise that 87,000 new IRS agents are coming for your hard-earned wages. Congress is spending money we don’t have Words that start with the letter “M.” The “mad hatter” and Eric Becht picked the word “moron” and used it to describe their enemies. Seems to me this is a perfect comparison of faulty thinking. An abstract delusion formed by misinformation. The mad hatter used it to describe the “Red Queen” because she solved every problem by cutting off the heads of all who opposed her. Remembered for your kindness Letter to the Editor: Jan. 9, 1954 is a date I have never forgotten. It has been 69 years since my bus driver, Don Croyle, was killed when trying to escape a fire that was overcome by smoke and perished trying to save his dogs. Mr. Croyle was a Korean War veteran and had shrapnel wounds which were still in his neck and cheek. They would fester and come to the surface where some could be removed.
