Opinion columns are not fact

To the Editor:

Once again Froma Harrop wrote an article printed on the opinion page with facts she wanted to tell. "Gas Prices could actually help Harris." Absolutely true unless voters know more facts. On day one Biden made moves to put the brakes on fossil fuels, stopped the Keystone pipeline, stopped or slowed approval of new pipelines, and stopped or limited drilling on federal lands. As soon as he saw the effects of higher fuels, which caused everything moved on a truck to increase in price as well as fertilizer and countless products like plastics, etc. he reacted. All this stimulated inflation also. Almost immediately he began to sell off the strategic oil reserves. Then he took sanctions off Venezuela and took pressure off Iran to begin selling oil. He slowly began to remove roadblocks for US producers to allow more supply and help with the inflation his policies drove.

Harrop made the point of EVs and hybrids reducing gasoline consumption in the US. It's true but she didn't point out that EVs account for just over 3 million cars in the US while total cars in the US are about 291 million.

Oil prices are largely driven by supply and consumption. With a good oil price, countries all over the world are pumping as much as possible. The big news on consumption is the China story. China is only using half the oil it was a few years ago due to its drastically slowed economy.

The folly of Biden's shortsightedness is widespread. Iran selling oil finances most of the trouble in the Middle East, funding Hamas, the Houthis, and many other Shia terror groups as Israel paid for on Oct. 7.

Yes, Karris may benefit from lower oil prices but at what cost? While the Sentinel does a great job of printing many informative news, her opinion is just that, an opinion. Take it with a cup of salt.

Democrats can win in Mifflin County

To the Editor:

If you are a Democrat in Mifflin County you may feel like you are alone. You're not! We must show ourselves and encourage our fellow Democrats and Harris supporters to not be afraid. Of course, we are not in the majority in our area but our votes are counted statewide. And, we can still make a big difference in this election. If you can put out a sign, great. Talk to your neighbors and friends. Tell someone how you feel. The most important thing is to vote! Don't be intimidated! We must elect Kamala Harris. Together we will win!
