Library closed for Labor Day
LEWISTOWN -- All branches of the Mifflin County Library will be closed to celebrate Labor Day from Saturday, Sept. 2 through Monday, Sept. 4. The library will reopen at 9 a.m Tuesday, Sept. 5 at Lewistown and 12 p.m. at the Kish Branch. Maintenance work scheduled
LEWISTOWN -- The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation Mifflin and Juniata County Maintenance announced the following work schedule for the week of Aug. 28 through Sept.1, weather permitting.
Motorists should travel with extra caution in these and all work areas. Motorists should be aware that due to the nature of highway maintenance and emergency work, crews could be working on any highway at any time of the day or night.

Computer class available
to jobseekers
LEWISTOWN -- TIU11 Community Education and Workforce Services, in conjunction with PA CareerLink, will offer a free six-week Computer Class at PA CareerLink®, MCIDC, Plaza, Bldg 58, Lewistown. Classes, which start Sept. 12, and run through Oct. 17, will be held on Tuesday evenings from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.
Content and hands-on practice will include the basics of using a computer, smartphone, software and internet. Participants will learn how to use popular software programs such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, email and more.
Jobseekers are encouraged to enroll by calling (717) 248-4942, ext. 117. Deadline to Register is Sept. 8. Space is limited to 10 students.
Coursework includes:
• Basics of computer equipment and functions,
• Word processing, keyboarding and using the mouse
• Similarities between Smartphone, tablet and computer functions
• How to manage and use an email account
• Creating, saving and transferring files
• Job searching, applications and forms
• Safe practices for using the internet, websites, and email
• Hands-on practice using Microsoft® Word, Excel and PowerPoint
At the end of the course, participants will be eligible to earn a NORTHSTAR "Certificate of Digital Literacy" to be used during their job search as proof of competency.

PennDOT centers closed
for Labor Day
HARRISBURG - The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced that all driver license and photo centers, including its full-service center in Harrisburg, will be closed Saturday, Sept. 2, through Monday, Sept. 4, in observance of Labor Day.
Customers may still obtain a variety of driver and vehicle products and services, including all forms, publications and driver training manuals, online through PennDOT’s Driver and Vehicle Services website, www.dmv.pa.gov.
Driver and vehicle online services are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week and include driver’s license, photo ID and vehicle registration renewals; driver-history services; changes of address; driver license and vehicle registration restoration letters; ability to pay driver license or vehicle insurance restoration fee; driver license and photo ID duplicates; and driver exam scheduling. There are no additional fees for using online services.
