LAST TIME OUT:
The Bears took on the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on Sunday, and despite putting up season-high marks for shots on goal in a single period with 19 in the third and 43 overall, Penguins netminder Taylor Gauthier stopped everything Hershey threw his way to record a shutout en route to a 5-0 Wilkes-Barre/Scranton victory. The Wolf Pack visited the Springfield Thunderbirds on Sunday, and doubled up their opponent by a 4-2 score at MassMutual Center, as Glenn Gawdin scored twice and Spencer Martin made 21 saves.
TAKING ON THE WOLF PACK:
After playing Hartford four times last season (going 1-1-2-0), Hershey's season series with the Wolf Pack has been expanded to six games for the 2026-27 campaign. Andrew Cristall tied with Ilya Protas for the team lead in scoring against Hartford with eight points (5g, 3a) including the first hat trick of his career in an 8-1 romp at Hartford on April 4. The Bears have a lifetime record of 24-19-0-3-2 at home against the Wolf Pack.
RETURN OF THE MAC:
The Washington Capitals loaned Dylan McIlrath to the Bears on Monday after the defenseman appeared in four games this season with Hershey's NHL affiliate. McIlrath previously skated for the Bears from 2021-24, captaining the club to back-to-back Calder Cup championships in 2023 and 2024. The bruising blueliner has 32 points (7g, 25a) and 301 penalty minutes in 192 career games with the Bears. McIlrath also previously skated for the Wolf Pack/Connecticut Whale franchise between 2010-15 and 2016-17. In 19 career regular-season outings against Hartford, McIlrath has produced six points (1g, 5a).
FAMILIAR FACES:
Several members of the Wolf Pack previously skated for or coached the Chocolate and White. Defenseman Vincent Iorio was claimed off waivers by the New York Rangers from San Jose last season after previously playing for Hershey from 2022-25, capturing two Calder Cups, while forward Justin Nachbaur skated for the Bears for part of the last two seasons. Associate coach Bob Woods previously won a Calder Cup with the Bears as a player in 1997, as an assistant coach in 2006, and as head coach in 2009.
TRINEYEV SLATED TO PLAY IN 200TH GAME:
Forward Bogdan Trineyev is expected to play in his 200th American Hockey League regular-season game - all with the Bears - tonight. The fourth-round pick (117th overall) of the Washington Capitals in the 2020 NHL Draft made his AHL regular-season debut at the tail end of the 2022-23 campaign, and helped the club capture the 2024 Calder Cup. In 199 career games with the Bears, Trineyev has produced 88 points (44g, 44a) while improving his offensive production with each successive season. He has seven points (2g, 5a) in 11 career games against Hartford.
BEARS BITES:
Lynden Lakovic is tied for eighth in league rookie scoring with eight points (3g, 5a)…Jacob MacDonald is tied for fourth in shots on goal among league defensemen with 29...Bears forward Jonny Brodzinski previously skated in 113 games for the Wolf Pack from 2020-24, and served as captain during the final three seasons of his tenure. Tonight's game would be his first against Hartford since departing the New York Rangers organization...Hartford head coach Jay Leach is the nephew of former Bears head coach Jay Leach, while Hartford assistant coach John Stevens is the son of former Bears player John Stevens...Hartford forward Cole Beaudoin is the nephew of former Bear Nic Beaudoin, who appeared in 34 games with Hershey during the 1996-97 season.
