Ridiculous law would be funny if it wasn't real
To the editor:
Oh how I love it! This new law in Florida is wonderful in how it will saves our children from the man-made constructs of sexual orientation and gender identity. It is about time that we stop subjecting impressionable young minds to these unnatural categories that force them into accepting that they must become someone they are not. I am so glad, and I hope more states adopt this, that we can no longer teach our children that there are boys and girls, mothers and fathers, Misters and Missuses, him or hers. It is about time that we eliminate the social edicts of these discriminatory and destructive practices of categorizing everyone into binary choices dictated by the ill-informed.
Teachers are discussing how it is that they need to implement the new law from Gov. DeSantis and are coming to the conclusion that in kindergarten through third grade, they are now going to have to refer to all of their students by the pronouns they and them as he and she are gender identities. They are now going to call all parental units just that -- parents, as that mother and father implies a sexual orientation and gender identities. At least that is what I imagine the right thinks at the mention of two dads, it apparently implies the sexual orientation based on the gender identification of these parents.
So how do we now handle restrooms for this age of young people? We identify a toilet as for boys or for girls, gender identifiers, what do we do? I thought you people hated gender neutral restrooms! And of course there are the libraries that will have to be purged. Books that show loving heterosexual couples as parents... heterosexuality is, of course, a sexual orientation and thus these references need to go. Teachers will no longer be called Mr. or Mrs. but must now go by the moniker Mx. After all, we can not indoctrinate our babies with complex concepts of people being individuals and free to identify or love as they wish -- way too age inappropriate. Only speak of your spouse, wife or husband gives way to summation of one's sexuality.
It is amazing how the reactionary response, to a perceived threat, allowed for such an utterly ridiculous law to be enacted without any understanding of its implications. I can hardly wait for the first lawsuit of parents suing teachers, principals and school boards for grooming their child to be a cisgender heterosexual when that is antithetical to whom they identify as. This is where ignorance proves to be adversarial to intent.
I look forward to a generation of people that entered fourth grade not recognizing any differences between those around them but rather, seeing all as equals. Imagine a future of people cleansed of the toxic thoughts of "I am this and you are that" but instead are raised knowing that "I are me and you are you and we are all fine just as we are."
