McCLURE -- An Amish man from McClure was killed Friday, following a pickup truck versus horse and buggy crash, according to a recent police news release.
Documents state that Rufus Yoder, 62, was driving his horse and buggy on U.S. 522 when the buggy was struck from behind and pushed 30 feet off the roadway down an enbankment. Yoder was reportedly ejected from the buggy and thrown into a nearby field, according to police documents.
Yoder sustained serious injuries and was transported to Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital by ambulance then flown by Life Lion to Geisinger Holy Spirit in Camp Hill. Yoder was pronounced dead at 7:30 p.m. Friday, listing the cause of death as multiple traumatic injuries, police documents state.
Documents state the roadway remained closed for five hours while police reconstructed the scene. Middleburg Borough and Pennsylvania State Police Selinsgrove assisted on scene, as well as EMS and paramedic units from Lewistown and McClure and Beaver Springs fire departments, according to police.
Police reported Randall Bonnie, 84, of Middleburg was operating the Ford F-150 that struck Yoder's buggy. Bonnie reportedly told police he did not see the buggy and no charges have been filed against Bonnie, according to online court records.
