Weather continues to hamper local auto racing. Despite that, area speedways hope to present a three-night sprint car schedule this weekend.Port Royal Speedway presents 410 sprint cars, super late models, econo lates and xtreme stock car action. The econo and extreme cars make their first appearance of the season tonight at the Juniata County oval. Racing continues the next two days in Central Pennsylvania, weather permitting.Tonight two area tracks have scheduled memorial races honoring respected racers - one, a nationally known promoter, the other a car owner.Jack Gunn operated Williams Grove, Selinsgrove, Hagerstown and Penn National speedways. All enjoyed success under his leadership. Selinsgrove Speedway honors Gunn this evening with the 36th edition of his memorial race. The 360 sprint car feature is sanctioned by the United Racing Club. Tony Stewart's All Star Circuit of Champions sprint car series visits Pennsylvania for the second week in a row this weekend.Bedford Speedway hosted the group last Sunday.Port Royal and Selinsgrove Speedways are paired up to host the All Stars. For both tracks it's a new venture. Tonight's Port Royal event is the Keith Kauffman Classic. Kauffman owns the most sprint car track championships and feature wins at the Juniata County oval. Weather finally turns friendly for area racing fans

This weekend the weather should be great for local racing. Here's a quick look at what some area speedways have planned: Port Royal Speedway presents Race to Cure Cancer Night this evening. A portion of the night's proceeds will be donated to the American Cancer Society. Along with 410 sprints and super late models are the 305s, completing the rained out program from April 2. The show is the final tune up for 410 sprint cars and super late models before next week's special event, the first Keith Kauffman Classic featuring Tony Stewart's All Star Circuit of Champion sprint cars. Weather will be a factor in this weekend's racing. With forecasts for cold temperatures and snow area speedways were already calling off action as this column was prepared.Port Royal Speedway and Beaver Springs Dragway will not operate this weekend. Port Royal cancelled the weekend program Thursday night. Bedford, Hesston next to open

Area speedways continue to open their gates for the season this weekend.Bedford and Hesston hold car shows and practice sessions. Bedford presents a car show Sunday at 11 a.m. Racers can test and tune their cars during the afternoon. The official 80th season opener is set for next Friday night. Super and limited late models are joined by semi-lates, pure stocks and four-cylinders.Hesston Speedway offers a slightly different format this week end.
