UNIVERSITY PARK – Penn State has lost a player at a position where it lacks depth.

Two-year starting linebacker Tony Rojas sustained a long-term injury and is out indefinitely, James Franklin confirmed Wednesday night.

It was reported that Rojas was injured in Tuesday’s practice.

Through four games, Rojas made 25 tackles, second on the team behind fellow linebacker Amare Campbell.

Franklin said Wednesday senior Dom DeLuca’s role will expand due to Rojas’ absence.

“Dom will step into that role,” he said.

Backup considerations now become Alex Tatsch, Cam Smith, Anthony Speca and Keon Wylie, Franklin said.

Rojas had missed spring practice with a shoulder injury.

“Guys will rally around him and support him,” Franklin said. “The hardest part is the initial shock and news of it.”

The No. 7 Lions (3-1) flew to Los Angeles on Thursday for Saturday’s game at UCLA (0-4). Kickoff is 3:30 (eastern time) and CBS will televise.

Starting at $2.99/week.
