Cubbison gets one more chance at NCAAs

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio — Kylee Cubbison has spent a year thinking about the race she didn’t get to run. The Mifflin County graduate and Bowling Green State University senior came within one round of the NCAA Championships last spring, surviving a rain-soaked opening day in Jacksonville, Fla., to grab the final qualifying spot in the 1,500-meter race before falling short in the quarterfinals. She left Florida knowing exactly how close she had come to Eugene, Ore., and exactly how much it stung to miss it. Now she gets one more chance. Cubbison returns to the NCAA East First Round ...

Huskies can’t control Beavers’ bats in play-in loss

DUBOIS — Tuesday’s loss to the DuBois Beavers epitomized the softball season for the Mifflin County Huskies. All spring, the Huskies either got a stellar pitching performance and their bats went cold, or they piled up runs and couldn’t get the big out when they needed it. Despite the inconsistency, Mifflin County still found itself within striking distance of the PIAA playoffs. But despite leading by as many as four runs, the Huskies fell to DuBois 10-7 in a Class 5A play-in game at Heindl Field. Macy Pietzsch collected three hits in four at-bats in the loss for the Huskies ...

Carter Smith wraps up a great career

By RAY WILDE Sports correspondent LEWISTOWN — The high school career of Mifflin County's Carter Smith is now in the history books. How good was his high school running career? Just think about this. Three of the most notable athletes to come out of Mifflin County didn’t have the success that he had in his high school career. Ralph Baker played football at Lewistown High School and went on to star at Penn State and won a Super Bowl with the New York Jets. Lewistown’s Krista Gingrich was a star player for the Lady Panthers in ...
