LEWISTOWN — Mifflin County (11-10) hosted Altoona (5-16) boys basketball on Monday for a nonconference battle at the Mifflin County High School and earned a 62-40 win.

The Huskies battled on both ends of the floor and got the win on Senior Night.

Mifflin County’s first points came from senior Evan Strohecker on a dropback three to give the Huskies an early advantage. The Huskies would go on a 5-0 run, but it would end on two free throws from Malikai Shields, who would end the night with seven points for the Mountain Lions.

Mifflin County was led by Jack Curry, knocking down three triples in a 16-point performance sparked by a strong second half by Curry. Lucas Hartung also had a strong performance on both ends of the floor as Hartung would put together a double-figure performance with 11 in a game where the Huskies had three in double figures.

Huskies coach Wade Curry said, “I’m super proud of our seniors and the work they put in over the years to get Evan Strohecker a shot early in this game and for him to knock it down after what he has been through it was an amazing moment. But Josh and Evan have given so much to this program and we’re proud of them. We aren’t done yet, we have to get back to the gym and prepare for our next game against Bellefonte and it’s the next game mentality.”

The Huskies started to get hot late as they were able to get production from everyone as everyone scored points in the win.

Husky Jack Curry said, “We have to continue to work hard at practice and we are going to carry this energy and carry that winning mentality with us into the rest of the season and we have to be ready to come out and play hard.”

The Mountain Lions came out of the intermission putting points on the board as the Lions also got production from a lot of their guys as Ethan Hicks, Eliot McCloskey and Shields all put together seven-point performances.

Altoona head coach Doug Pfeffer said, “Give credit to Mifflin County they came out ready to play today with a lot of energy. We did not, we have to focus on what we did wrong and we only have one day to figure it out until Cumberland Valley. So, we’re going to look at film and look at ways we can improve and hopefully make those adjustments next game.”

The Huskies head to Bellefonte (2-17) on Wednesday for a regular-season finale at 7 p.m.

Starting at $2.99/week.
