Zearfoss wins Labor Day Classic

PORT ROYAL – Brock Zearfoss won the 74th Annual Labor Day Classic/Lynn

Paxton Tribute race for the sprint cars Monday afternoon at Port Royal

Speedway.

Zearfoss, of Jonestown, earned $7,400, plus a $500 bonus for his

last-lap pass of Parker Price-Miller. It was his first win of the

season in the Rich Eichelberger No. 8.

“It’s about time,” Zearfoss said. “The car has been good. We just

haven’t been getting the right starting spots, or stupid stuff has

been happening. Feels good to get one this year for Rich

(Eichelberger) and my guys.”

“I thought I gave it away, coming for two-to-go,” Zearfoss said. “I

got super-tight and Parker got a good run off. I was fortunate he

didn’t go to the bottom. We had one stolen from us in 2017 by Danny

(Dietrich) on the last lap. It’s good to get one back.”

Chase Dietz started on the pole grabbing the lead to start the 25-lap

feature. Price-Miller raced inside of Dietz entering turn three on lap

four taking the lead.

He completed the lap as the new leader when the yellow came out for

Austin Bishop in turn four.

Dietz tried a slider on the restart in turn one, but Price-Miller

turned back inside to keep the lead off turn two.

Danny Dietrich tried to squeeze between Dietz and the inside wall

entering turn one on lap 10. He hit the wall and spun, but kept going.

The yellow did come out and Dietrich went to the rear of the field.

Price-Miller had a 1-second lead before the caution.

Price-Miller controlled the restart and pulled away. Zearfoss, who

started fourth, challenged Dietz for the runner-up spot.

He caught slower traffic with eight laps to go. He stayed fast on the

top in one and two, while everybody raced the bottom in three and

four.

The yellow flew with six laps to go, erasing his lead once again.

Dietz tried the bottom again on the restart, but Price-Miller had the

momentum off the top of the second turn.

The field went under caution again with four laps left.

Price-Miller controlled the restart as Zearfoss passed Dietz. The

yellow came out again with three to go.

Zearfoss stayed with Price-Miller on the restart and made the inside

groove work as he passed Price-Miller off the second turn on the final

lap to steal the win.

“Parker did a good job,” Zearfoss said. “I was surprised he stayed up

there (top of one and two) as long as he did.”

“I never saw anybody down there and I felt like I was still making

good time,” Price-Miller said. “We had a great car and had a lot of

fun and more comfortable for later this week. That one is going to

sting for a while, but hopefully we can make up for it.”

Price-Miller, Dietz, Mike Wagner and Logan Wagner completed the top

five. Dylan Cisney, Domenic Melair, Justin Whittall, Michael Walter

and Ryan Smith rounded out the top 10.

Timed hot laps set the heat race line-ups for the 27 cars. Brady Bacon

(15.999), Price-Miller (16.224) and Zearfoss (16.722) were fastest in

their respective heats. Mike Wagner, Dietz and Dietrich won the heats

earning an extra $633 each. Nash Ely won the B-main.

PORT ROYAL SATURDAY RESULTS

Port Royal Mayor Dylan Cisney came out on top of a thrilling four-car

battle for the sprint car feature win Saturday night at Port Royal

Speedway.

He hasn’t had a full-time ride this season, but picked up the Stewart

Smith Racing 27S ride when Robbie Kendall took time off to care for

his newborn.

“This means so much,” Cisney said. “I watched most of these on a couch

down the street this year. If you would have told me I’d be back in a

car for fair week, and knock off a win, I wouldn’t have believed you.

I had no plans.”

In only his second race of the season, Cisney led Blane Heimbach and

TJ Stutts early in the 25-lap feature.

Heimbach ran the bottom and passed Cisney for the lead after eight laps.

Meanwhile, 16th starter, Australian Ryan Newton, charged through the

field and passed Stutts for third.

Cisney took the lead back from Heimbach and Newton raced into second

with 10 to go.

Newton was pounding a narrow cushion and challenged for the lead.

Cisney went to the top now with Newton, as Stutts showed his nose

running the bottom. The top three were only a few car lengths apart.

Stutts passed Newton back and had a great run on Cisney off turn four,

but the yellow came out.

Cisney and Newton went to the top on the restart, Stutts the bottom,

and Heimbach the middle. Newton tapped the second turn wall allowing

Heimbach and Stutts to get by.

Heimbach passed Stutts back for second and challenged for the lead

over the final laps, but it was Cisney scoring his 10th career Port

Royal win. Heimbach, Newton, 11th starter Brock Zearfoss, and Stutts

completed the top five

Logan Wagner, Michael Walter, Parker Price-Miller, point leader Justin

Whittall and McIntyre Jr. rounded out the top 10.

Heat races for the 33 cars went to Nash Ely, Walter, Zearfoss and

Lynton Jeffrey. J.T. Ferry won the consolation.

Virginia’s Tyler Bare passed point leader Lane Snook on a final lap

restart to win the $3,333 Butch Renninger Memorial for the limited

late models.

Snook led from second as fourth starter Bare moved into second. After

a caution with eight laps completed, Bare challenged him for the lead

for a few laps. Snook eventually pulled away and appeared headed to a

win in the race that honors his grandfather until the yellow flew with

one to go.

Jaxton Garman, Ryan Zook, and Eric Irvin completed the top five. DJ

Myers, Jared Fulkroad, Brad McGinnis, George Dixon and Matt Murphy

rounded out the top 10.

Snook set quick time with a lap of 19.989. Devin Hart and Bare won the

heat races.

Gregg Satterlee, of Indiana, Pa., came from the eighth starting spot

to win his sixth Butch Renninger Memorial for the late models and

$7,333.

Matt Cosner led the first 23 laps before Satterlee passed him and led

the final 10.

Rick Eckert’s third place finish earned him his second Port Royal

track championship in the last three seasons. Maryland’s Justin Weaver

finished second in points (-150).

“I won one here two years ago, and last year gave one away on the last

race, it’s always cool to win a championship, I didn’t think we were

going to be able to run all the races this year, and some things fell

through that I had to do, and I got to run them all.”

Gary Stuhler and Trever Feathers completed the top five. Hayes

Mattern, Dillan Stake, Dylan Yoder, Justin Weaver and Ross Robinson rounded out the top 10.

Feathers had a quick time at 19.921. JT Spence, Eckert, Stuhler and

Cosner won the heats and Austin Berry the B-main.

Starting at $2.99/week.
