BELLEVILLE — Belleville (4-13) snapped an 11-game losing streak on Monday with a 13-3 victory over Strodes Mills (1-16) in the only game played in the Mifflin County Babe Ruth League.
Reagan Varner came in relief for Belleville and picked up the win. Varner entered the game after the first inning and held Strodes to just one run. Varner gave up just one hit, walked one and struck out five. Varner, who has all four wins for Belleville this season, faced just 14 men.
Belleville scored five times in the first inning on just one hit. The only hit came from Levi Sharp. Strodes gave up six walks, four wild pitches and a passed ball that scored five runs.
Belleville finished with eight hits. The Big Valley club put together its best inning with a four-hit outburst in the fourth frame. Belleville scored four times and put the game away. Kaiden Yoder, Landon Rhodes and Gabe Clark each had singles, while Kaden Peachey had the big hit, a two-run single.
In the fifth, Gage Geissinger laid down a perfect squeeze bunt to drive in Belleville’s 13th run and end the game. Rhodes was Belleville’s only multiple hitter with three.
Strodes Mills had three hits. Ezra Beamer was 2-for-2 with two runs scored. He smashed a triple in the third and scored on a Belleville overthrow. Kolton Yeater had an RBI single in the first inning.
This marked Belleville’s second longest losing streak in the last three years. In 2023 Belleville had a 15-game losing streak and in 2024, a 10-game skid.
The win was Bill Corbin’s (Belleville manager) 780th career victory, counting Belleville and Mifflin County All-Star play.
