Times for fairs, festivals, Third Friday in Reedsville

‘Tis the season — for the start of those favorite fairs and festivals. While the calendar just recently turned to summer, the Fremont Strawberry Festival in Mount Pleasant Mills wraps up on Saturday and the Third Friday in Reedsville is back for its June edition.

There’s also community yard sales and a number of outdoor activities at state parks throughout the Juniata Valley.

Check out these things to do:

Fairs, festivals and First Friday

• Fremont Strawberry Festival, 4 to 9:30 p.m. today through Saturday, 299 Millrace Road, Mount Pleasant Mills. Festival goers will find rides, games, a 50/50 drawing will be held daily at 9 p.m, along with raffle tickets, bingo, a cake wheel and crocks. Today, there is a ham pot pie meal from 4 to 6 p.m., free rides all evening and Lucky Afternoon performing at 7 and 8:30 p.m. Thursday’s schedule includes chicken and waffles meal from 4 to 6 p.m., parade at 7 p.m. and Eighty 6 performing after the parade. Friday is $1 hot dog night with Heather Olson and the Silver Eagle Band performing at 7 and 8:30 p.m. Saturday has Over the Edge taking the stage at 7 and 8:30 p.m. Food to enjoy including French Fries, fish sandwiches, cheeseburgers, hot sausages, chicken wraps, walking tacos, pizza, nightly soup specials and homemade ice cream. • Third Friday in Reedsville, 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, downtown Reedsville. Discover live music, food trucks and activities.

• Beavertown Historical Society Museum, 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Beavertown Borough Building, 111 W. Walnut St., Beavertown. Exhibit features Ted Herman’s World War II exhibit, showcasing military uniforms and additional wartime artifacts from other sources. The book “Beavertown’s Snapshots in Time” will also be available at the museum for a donation of $45. To reserve a copy or for more information, contact Karen Burns at (570) 658-7385.

Outdoors galore

• Stream Stomp at Greenwood Furnace, 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Greenwood Furnace State Park, 15795 Greenwood Road, Huntingdon. Investigate the stream as Greenwood Furnace State Park hosts a stream stomp. Search for aquatic bugs, crayfish, fish, salamanders and other critters. A limited number of nets will be provided. Meet at the cemetery.

• Ranger Walk at Greenwood Furnace, 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Greenwood Furnace State Park, 15795 Greenwood Road, Huntingdon. Explore the park through the eyes of a park ranger. Join Ranger Louie at the park’s beach area for a leisurely nature walk near the lake. Topics will include animals, plants and fungi.

• 10th Annual Great Outdoor Picnic, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Penn’s Cave and Wildlife Park, 214 Penns Cave Road, Centre Hall. • Historical Walking Tour at Greenwood Furnace, 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sunday, Greenwood Furnace State Park, 15795 Greenwood Road, Huntingdon. Join the park staff for a walk through the historic district. Learn about the village that dominated the area for 70 years. Meet at the Blacksmith Shop.

Yard sale day

• McAlisterville Community Yard Sale Day, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, McAlisterville. The McAlisterville Community Alliance is helping guide you to the bargains as they have put together a Yard Sale Trail map with all the sales going on in the community. Cruise In Rescheduled

The Father’s Day Cruise In, which was scheduled for June 15, will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, Locust Grove Retirement Village, 69 Cottage Road, Mifflin. Vendors, food trucks, raffles and music from the Make Mine Country band, along with new and old cars, motorcycles and trucks. Proceeds benefit the activities department.
