Wildcats best Indians, 12-1
MIFFLINTOWN — Josh Zahurak belted a home run and tallied four RBIs as Halifax baseball rolled by Juniata on Wednesday, 12-1, in six innings.
Freshman Caleb Auker had a double and one RBI for the Indians (7-7) as he went 2-for-3 on the day. Drew Geedey scored a run and Daylyn Kennedy had one hit for Juniata.
Despite the loss, Indians coach Ty Treaster noticed some positive things during the game.
“Some of our guys are really stepping up, they are really hitting the ball. We are young, everything that we have going on, the kids are getting better I think each time. We continue to make mistakes but they are learning, they are young but they will figure it out,” Treaster noted.
Juniata has won three out of five games. They won their last game against Line Mountain on Monday, 14-13.
“Today was just a little different,” Treaster explained. “In our previous games we got up right away, and when these guys get up right away on teams they will continue to keep putting runs up. It was just a tough game.”
Also for the Wildcats (12-2), Cooper Custer had three RBIs, two hits and one run. Brandon Schell went 1-for-2 with a double and one RBI.
Halifax scored five times in the third frame and four times in the sixth frame. They had seven hits and no errors. Juniata had four hits and five errors.
“Halifax is always tough. They have a solid nine all the time. We knew that they didn’t have their best pitching going into it but they made the plays on the field. We still hit the ball but they made the plays and that’s what baseball is. It was a little bit of a struggle but they hung in there and just didn’t come out on top today,” Treaster said.
Juniata travels to Upper Dauphin on Friday at 4:30 with four games remaining.
Juniata is currently fifth in the Tri-Valley League and are continuing to battle down the stretch.
“We are still fighting for the fourth spot to get into our playoffs and we are still feeling a little optimistic. We are making some mistakes and things that we are doing wrong but we are working to try and clean it up and try to get better. We’re a young team, we’ll get there,” Treaster said.
