Rain postpones sprint car features
MECHANICSBURG – The sprint car features were postponed by rain Friday
night at Williams Grove Speedway. Rain hit the track after one lap was
completed in the sprint car feature, which was under red flag
conditions after a frontstretch flip damaged the catch fencing.
Both sprint car features will be completed at a later date. Williams
Grove is off next Friday night, the 11th, due to the Knoxville
Nationals. Racing resumes at the Grove on Friday, Aug. 18.
Tim Wagaman and Cameron Smith won the heat races and shared the front
row for the 25-lap feature.
Smith grabbed the lead over Wagaman and Lucas Wolfe. Smith quickly
opened up a 1.4-second. Billy Dietrich and Kyle Moody followed them.
Point leader Freddie Rahmer, Nash Ely, Danny Dietrich, Devon Borden
and TJ Stutts were racing in the top 10 after one lap was completed.
A bad crash on the frontstretch stopped the race with one lap
completed. Ricky Dieva flipped violently and eventually into the catch
fencing. He was okay, but the race was delayed to repair the fence.
The cars were sent back to the pit area while crews worked on the
fence.
While crews were working on the fence, a rain shower hit the speedway
and postponed the features.
Frankie Herr, Chad Criswell and Preston Lattomus won the 358 sprint
car heat races.
Port Royal Speedway swings into action tonight at 7. The limited late
models are in the spot light with a $3,500 to win main event. The
sprint cars will race for $5,000 to win and the super late models,
$4,000 to win. Racing begins at 7.
