Former area athletes making strides in PSAC

LEWISTOWN – The pouring rain and near-freezing temperatures didn’t faze Kortlin Yetter or the Division II Millersville Marauders one bit.

Yetter notched her fourth goal of the season on her only shot of the game as the Millersville field hockey team advanced to the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference semifinals for the 11th year in a row with a 4-1 rout of Bloomsburg on Nov. 15.

Yetter, a 5-4 forward, is from Lewistown and played for Mifflin County High School. She scored in the second quarter as the Marauders opened up a 2-0 lead.

To date, the senior has played in 19 games for Millersville, including two 2 starts. She has racked up 4 goals and 2 assists with 14 shots.

On Sept. 8, Yetter opened the season with a goal and a shot in a 5-2 win over Adelphia. She added two assists in a 7-0 victory over Molloy on Sept. 17.

On Oct. 8, she had a shot in a 2-1 defeat at Frostburg. The following day against Maryville on Oct. 9, Yetter had 3 shots in a 5-0 victory. She had 1 shot in a 2-1 win over West Chester on Oct. 12 and 2-0 win at Mercyhurst on Oct. 15, a game she started.

In her other start, a 6-2 victory over Slippery Rock on Oct. 21, Yetter scored a goal and had 3 shots. She scored again against Shippensburg on Nov. 2, a 4-1 win and registered a shot.

On Nov. 9, a 2-1 loss to West Chester, Yetter had a shot. She added another shot in a 1-0 win at Mansfield on Nov. 12.

The Marauders are 15-4 overall and 7-2 in PSAC play, finishing third in the 10-team circuit. The top 6 teams qualified for the playoffs. They advanced to play No. 2 Shippensburg on Nov. 18. Kutztown won the PSAC regular-season title at 8-1.

Football

Red-shirt junior Jacob Yoder (Belleville/Mifflin County) played in five games for Division II Bloomsburg University Huskies. The 6-6, 305-pound Yoder played offensive lineman and appeared in 5 games this past season. He recorded 1 solo tackle during a 17-9 win over Lock Haven on Oct. 15. The Huskies went 4-7 overall and 3-5 in the PSAC East Division.

Brandon Smith-Price (Lewistown/Mifflin County) was listed on Bloomsburg’s roster but did not have any statistics. A sophomore, Smith-Price is a 6-4, 350 offensive lineman.

Brock Capouillez (McVeytown/Mifflin County) was also listed on Bloomsburg’s roster but did not have any statistics. A sophomore, Capouillez is a 6-3, 192-pound linebacker.

Quinton Posey (Mount Union/Mount Union Area High School) played in 9 of 11 games for Division II Seton Hill Griffins this past season.

Posey, a 6-1, 215-pound defensive back registered 2 solo tackles and 2 assists for 4 tackles total. He also had .5 tackles for loss for 1 yard.

Posey, a red-shirt junior, had 1 solo tackle and 1 assist in a 36-17 loss at Shippensburg on Sept. 10. He added 1 assist and a .5 tackle for loss in a 7-0 win over Mercyhurst on Nov. 5. Posey also had a solo tackle in a 14-10 loss to Millersville.

Seton Hill finished 2-9 overall, including 2-5 in the PSAC West Division.

Jacob Condo (Thompsontown/Juniata High School) was also listed on Seton Hill’s roster this season. The 5-11, 215-pound freshman linebacker did not play in any games.

Golf

Jullian Krainak (Middleburg/Midd-West High School) tied for 61st overall for Bloomsburg at the Han Hansen Invitational on Oct. 2-3 at Clarion. A freshman, Krainak shot an 84 in the opening round then came back with an 86 for a +26. He followed that up with an +86 on the day. The Huskies finished 10th out of 12 teams.

At the Husky Invitational on Oct. 10, Krainak rounded out the Bloomsburg A team with a round of 86, tied for 34th overall. He birdied the par-four first hole and par-5 fifth. He had a birdie on the par-5 11th hole. Bloomsburg placed second out of 10 teams.

Soccer

Josie Swartz (Mifflintown/Juniata) started all 18 games for Division II Lock Haven Eagles, scoring 2 goals and 2 assists. A 5-4 midfielder, both of the red-shirt senior’s goals came in a 3-1 season-opening win over California University (Pa.), including the game-winner. She had a season-high five shots in the Aug. 25 contest.

Swartz also tallied an assist in a 1-0 victory at Millersville on Aug. 31 and another at home against Millersville, a 1-1 tie on Oct. 5. She ended the season with 21 shots, including 3 shots at East Stroudsburg, a 1-0 loss on Oct. 12. Swartz notched a pair of shots on three occasions: a 1-0 win over Pitt-Johnstown on Aug. 28; a 0-0 tie against Mansfield on Sept. 7; and a 2-0 loss at Kutztown on Sept. 28.

Janessa Swartz (Mifflintown/Juniata) also suited up for Lock Haven. The 5-8 forward/midfielder started 13 of 17 contests and had one assist and 10 shots on goal.

A junior, Swartz’s lone assist came against California (Pa.) on the Eagles’ final goal. After Josie Swartz had given Lock Haven a 3-1 lead with her second goal.

Janessa Swartz had two shots on three occasions: a 0-0 tie at Mansfield on Oct. 8; a 1-0 loss at East Stroudsburg on Oct. 12; and a 4-0 loss to West Chester on Oct. 15.

Lock Haven finished 3-10-5 overall and 1-10-5 in the PSAC.

Carlee Barrick (McAlisterville/East Juniata High School) played in two games this season as a freshman for Millersville. The 5-0 defender played 1 minute at Jefferson, a 6-1 loss on Aug. 27, and 5 minutes in a 6-0 win over Mansfield on Sept. 17.

The Marauders went 3-8-6 overall, including 3-7-6 in the PSAC.
