Raymond E. Hill

Raymond E. Hill – Born July 23, 1933. Son of Horace C. Hill and Pearl E. Hill; preceded in death by his sister, Pearl (Gilbert); and survived by his wife of 72 years, Donna; his son, Mark (Sarah); his daughter, Kim (Carol); four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Ray was born in Altoona, Pa., but lived most of his adult life in Lewistown, where he was an industrial arts teacher for 35 years. From a young age, he played the drums and performed in several bands throughout his life. He especially loved Big Band music.

He served in the United States Army in Germany and in the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary in Pennsylvania and the Florida Atlantic region. Ray was an ordained minister in the Church of the Brethren, serving the Beech Run and Aughwick Germany Valley Churches as pastor. Within the Middle Pennsylvania District, he was director of the Bethany Extension School and Pastoral Graduate Credentialing, a board member for many years, and the 1992 district conference moderator. Ray and Donna also served together as official district hosts for incoming pastors.

Ray loved the ocean and water, and sailboating was his passion.

A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 6, 2026, at King-Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan St., Lewistown. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 7, 2026, at Aughwick Germany Valley Church of the Brethren, located at the intersection of Loves Valley and Loop Road in Shirleysburg, PA 17260.

Many, many thanks to the caring staff at Valley View Retirement Community, who took such great care of Ray during his final days.
