French, Kint win all-Juniata district final
From staff reports
ALTOONA — It was an all-Juniata affair Wednesday at the District 6 Class 2A tennis doubles championship, as the Indians’ duo of Adam French and Gavin Kint defeated teammates Emmett Hibbs and Dane Whitesel in straight sets to capture the gold in Altoona.
The team of French and Kint won by set scores of 7-6, 6-1.
It was redemption of sorts for French, who finished runner-up to teammate Max Lauver in the singles final a week ago.
The French-Kint team advances to the state tournament, which will be held May 27 and 28 at Hershey Racquet Club. Their first-round opponent will be the to-be-determined District 2 champion. The District 2 doubles tournament is scheduled for May 14.

BLOOMSBURG — A two-run rally in the top of the seventh inning catapulted Midd-West past Bloomsburg to a 3-2 Heartland Conference baseball win Wednesday.
Trailing 2-1, the Mustangs’ rally began with a one-out single by Preston Arbogast. Garrett Leitzel followed with a single of his own to put two on. After a pop up for the second out of the inning, Matthew Weimer drew a walk to load the bases before a wild pitch allowed Arbogast to cross the plate with the tying run.
Caden Wolfley drew a walk to re-load the bases before another wild pitch allowed Isaac Knepp, who was in as a courtesy runner for the pitcher Leitzel, to dash home with the go-ahead run.
Leitzel then struck out the side in the bottom of the seventh to preserve the win for the Mustangs.
Midd-West hosts Hughesville on Friday.

MOUNT UNION — Mount Union’s pitching duo of Ryan Scott and Dayvon Wilson combined to throw a two-hitter Wednesday afternoon, as the Trojans topped Inter-County Conference foe Juniata Valley 2-1 in a game that was relocated to Mount Union because of poor field conditions at the Hornets’ home field in Alexandria.
Scott started and went 5 2/3 innings allowing just one hit. But that one hit was a second-inning double to the Hornets’ Trey Wilson. Wilson advanced to third on a wild pitch and stole home as part of a double steal to put Juniata Valley on the board first.
Mount Union answered in the bottom of the third as Landon Chrisemer drew a one-out walk, stole second and came around to score on an RBI single off the bat of Cameron Donaldson to tie the score.
In the fifth, the Trojans scored what would be the winning run as Chrisemer singled and then went station to station on a single by Bryce Danish, a fielder’s choice from Donaldson and the go-ahead single from Braylan Knable.
Wilson allowed just one hit over 1 1/3 innings to earn the save.
The two teams are scheduled to meet again today.
