Green thumb or not, check out these things to do

LEWISTOWN — Whether you’ve got a green thumb or an inkling for angling, there’s something for everyone to do this weekend.

The Master Gardeners of the Juniata Valley will hold their annual plant sale from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday. There’s a new date and a new location this year as it will be held in the mall area of South Plaza Drive — next to Mifflin County Extension — in Lewistown.

They will have native plants, perennials, annuals and vegetables for sale. Bring the kids for a planting activity.

Fishing derby in Mifflintown

The Cornerstone Community Church Fishing Derby, in memory of Pastor Albert Gray, is set to cast off on Saturday at the Fry Farm, 1001 Doe Run Road in Mifflintown, from 7 to 11 a.m. Registration will be at 7 a.m., with an angler meet and devotional at 7:30 a.m., lines drop at 8 a.m. and fishing finishes at 11 a.m. Hot dogs, chips, cookies, drinks and coffee will be served. This derby is for ages 14 and under. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

MCSD Elementary Art Show

The MCSD Elementary Art Show will be held Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Lewistown Elementary School, 1 Manor Drive, Lewistown. The show features highlighted works from select students across the district. Students, families, community members are invited to attend.

Food, folks and fun

• Yard and Bake Sale, 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, St. Mark’s Dormantown Church, 821 Dormantown Road, McClure.

• Newton/Wayne Turkey Supper, sponsored by Newton/Wayne Volunteer Fire Co., 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, 9 Market St., Newton Hamilton. Call (814) 542-8968 starting at 8 a.m. the day of the supper to place your orders. Pickup starts at 1 p.m. Takeout only. Cost is $14 for a regular meal and $15 for all white meat.

• Bake Sale in McClure, hosted by Wagner United Methodist Church, 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, 6280 Route 522 North, McClure. Lots of sweets, treats and goodies to choose from. Proceeds benefit the church.

Davy Jones display continues at Beavertown museum

The Beavertown Historical Society Museum, 111 W. Walnut St., Beavertown, will be open the following Sundays: May 3, 17 from 1 to 3 p.m. and on Monday, May 25, it will be open after the Memorial Day service until 2 pm in the Beavertown Borough building. Their feature display will be Davy Jones of The Monkees and Beavertown musical groups. Singer Chris Pick will be performing after the Memorial Day service until 2 pm. Free movie night

Join Reedsville United Methodist Church. 82 E. Logan St., Reedsville, on Sunday, for a free movie night at 6:30 p.m. The movie will be “A Cross to Bear.” Like every little girl, Erica Moses had big dreams for the future, but life had other plans for her. After failed relationships, addiction and homelessness, Erica hits rock bottom when she faces a young mother’s ultimate nightmare: the loss of her child. With nowhere left to turn, she finds herself on the doorstep of a very special house. At this home, women can find shelter, a helping hand and, just maybe, a second chance. Refreshments served. All are welcome.
