HARRISBURG — Since Mifflin County became a member of the Mid-Penn Commonwealth, no one opponent has been a bigger thorn in the side of the Huskies than Central Dauphin when it comes to league dual-meet competition.

On Thursday night, coach Kirby Martin and the Mifflin County Huskies got a victory that had continuously eluded them, as gritty wrestling and pins from Parker Kearns (152), Kyler Everly (172), Trey Shoemaker (189) and Anson Wagner (215) helped carry the No. 12 ranked Huskies to a 42-23 statement victory over the No. 17 ranked Rams.

Mifflin County’s Nic Allison recorded his 100th victory on the evening, picking up a dominant 13-4 major decision over the Rams’ Dallas Schorr to add another milestone to a historic evening.

Allison is the eighth wrestler in Mifflin County High School history to record 100 victories in a Huskies singlet, joining Trent Hidlay (154), Hayden Hidlay (149), Noah Stewart (146), Christian Fisher (116), Isaac Underhill (111) and former wrestler and a current member of the coaching staff, Trey Hartsock (105) with 100 or more victories.

“To do it against the team we’ve never beat before, it’s an incredible feeling,” Allison said. “My 100th win coming in the same dual that we beat Central Dauphin for the first time in school history, there’s not a better feeling in the world. I have the team to back me up and the coaching staff that has supported me. I can’t ask for anything else. I’ve been given everything, and I couldn’t ask for more.”

Mifflin County’s Hunter Johnson, top, looks to score back points after a takedown against Central Dauphin’s Dallas Schorr. Johnson won, 9-0.

The Husky senior currently holds a career mark of 100-15 and a record of 11-1 on the year.

“Nic Allison getting his 100th win is something that is incredibly special,” Mifflin County coach Kirby Martin said. “Kids getting to 100 wins is something that never gets old because in the state of Pennsylvania, to win 100 matches is a super challenge, so that’s a credit to Nic and how he competes. So proud of him for reaching that milestone. Now that the milestone is taken care of, we work toward the postseason.”

Central Dauphin started the night with No. 10 ranked Liam Flanagan picking up a fall over Styers Oden to give the Rams the early 6-0 edge.

Allison got Mifflin County on the board, but Central Dauphin holding the No. 5 ranked wrestler to four team points seemed like a small victory early in the match, before gutsy performances by Hunter Johnson (120), Blake Aumiller (132) and Deakon Schaeffer (145) had Mifflin County trailing 17-15 through seven bouts.

Johnson, Aumiller and Schaeffer kept the Huskies within striking distance early, as Aumiller’s 11-8 decision over state-ranked Michael Beers and Schaeffer’s dominant 15-4 major decision over Arthur Ruud helped power the Huskies into the middleweights.

Mifflin County’s Deakon Schaeffer works to keep Central Dauphin’s Arthur Ruud down during a 145-pound bout. Schaeffer won with a 15-4 major decision.

“My challenge to the kids was that I needed six hard-fought minutes, because this is a really tough place to wrestle,” Martin said. “Calls don’t usually go our way and it was going to take 13 guys doing their job to get this win. I give credit to every kid. Everyone went out and was scrappy and that was huge.”

Aumiller led 4-2 after one period before scoring four more points in the second to carry an 8-4 advantage into the third. Aumiller reversed Beers in the third and when Beers countered with four points of his own, Aumiller was able to escape and eek out an 11-8 victory.

Schaeffer led his match with an opening period takedown before using an escape, two takedowns and two back points to carry a 9-1 lead into the third. Schaeffer scored a pair of takedowns and was well in control before Ruud escaped near the edge of the mat, as Schaeffer hit the ground in pain.

Schaeffer fought through some tough cramping and was able to secure another takedown for a 15-4 major decision.

“I just had to push through it,” Schaeffer said. “I knew it would have been a big win for us an getting those team points is all that we needed.”

Things changed mightily for the Huskies in the middleweights as they displayed dominance with Kearns, Everly, Shoemaker and Wagner allowing Mifflin County to pick up four pins in a five-bout stretch to take a commanding lead.

The Huskies took a 27-23 lead after Everly’s fall in 3:29 and never looked back. Wagner slamming Carson Cassel to his back with a resounding thud for a fall in 1:02 secured the historic victory.

No. 13 Jaxson Pupo picked up an 8-2 decision over state ranked Ben Stewart at heavyweight to further cement the win.

For Allison, the victory is one that he is especially proud of, as a member of the senior class to finally break the drought against the Rams, in hostile territory, no less.

“It was super exciting and that’s really how our team gets in these dual meets, our whole team get into them,” Allison said. “There’s a lot of intensity and getting to see some of those young guys prevail, it was a big confidence booster for them, and it puts a smile on my face. it’s just going to be an all-around good night in Mifflin County.”

Martin was elated with the way his team rose to the occasion and was able to secure bonus points down the stretch to seal the victory.

“We got some pins and that really helped us solidify that win,” Martin said. “In the Mid-Penn, that’s the standard that you have to wrestle at. Every match is going to just be a fight because of the level of coaching and competition is really good. You can’t come out here and roll over a team. You have to battle in every match of each dual meet, and this was a great wrestling match. Fans were into it and the coaches were into it.”

And to beat the Rams for the first time?

“It’s awesome, especially for the seniors, like Nic Allison, getting his 100th win and finally getting to beat a team like that,” Schaeffer said. “It’s amazing.”

“To be honest, I’m very thankful that we won,” Martin said. “Finally.”
