Gary S. ‘Hoagie’ Lynch Sr.

Gary S. “Hoagie” Lynch Sr., 86, of Lewistown, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, Dec. 8, 2025.

Born on Dec. 8, 1939, in Lewistown, he was the son of the late Charles and Stella (Knepp) Lynch. He now rejoins his loved ones in Heaven, including his beloved wife, Jean (Campbell) Lynch, who passed away on Nov. 6, 2019; his son, Steven Lynch; and his siblings, Charles Lynch Jr., Raymond Lynch, Harriett Johnson, Richard Lynch, and Alice Yetter. He was the last of his immediate family.

Affectionately known as “Hoagie,” he leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish his memory: his son, Gary Lynch Jr., of Lewistown; his daughter, Stella Robinson and her husband, Michael Sr., of Lewistown; his grandchildren, Tyler Lynch, Jessica Stoltzfus, and Michael Robinson Jr. and his wife, Sara; and his great-grandchildren, Kylie Lynch, Steven Lynch, Jezdon Stoltzfus, and Slaydon Stoltzfus.

Hoagie faithfully served his country in the United States Air Force and was a devoted member of Lewistown Alliance Church. His working years reflected a steady hand and a strong work ethic. He spent many years as a hydraulic specialist with Capital Airways, later owned and operated J & G Deli alongside his wife, and worked as a welder and fabricator at Metlmex. He concluded his career at Mike’s Chimney Sweep, where he worked alongside his son-in-law, Michael, until retiring.

Hoagie found his greatest joys outdoors — fishing, hunting, and especially traveling to Illinois for annual hunting trips with friends and family, where unforgettable stories and cherished memories were made. In his younger years, he loved playing slow-pitch softball and bowling, sharing many laughs with friends along the way. Those who knew him will remember his quick wit, his playful teasing, and the unmistakable way he could brighten any room he entered. Above all, Hoagie loved his family with a depth and devotion that guided every part of his life. His presence, his laughter, and the love he so freely gave will be deeply missed by all who knew and cherished him.

A funeral service will take place at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 12, 2025 at King-Barr Funeral Home, 120 Logan Street, Lewistown, with Pastor John Walters officiating. There will be a time of visitation held at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until time of service.

Private burial will follow at Juniata Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions in Hoagie’s memory may be made to Lewistown Alliance Church, 50 Hudson Ave., Lewistown, PA 17044.
