Juniata pummels Newport, 70-35

MIFFLINTOWN — Maura Campagna posted 15 points as Juniata drubbed Newport girls basketball on Tuesday evening, 70-35.

Mylee Landis added 14 points for the Lady Indians and teammate Aubryn Deihl tallied 11.

Lindsea Gilson tacked on eight points and Grace Reinhold chimed in with seven.

Juniata (1-2) outscored Newport in the second half, 38-19.

Juniata visits St. Joe’s on Friday.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Norry edges BCS, 45-42

BELLEVILLE — Belleville Christian lost to Norry Christian on Tuesday, 45-42, in boys hoops.

For the Thunder (0-1), guard Devin Yoder corralled 18 points and made three threes.

Landon Rhodes had seven points for BCS and Grant Yoder added six. Bryson Peachey tacked on five points.

For Norry, Ethan Bennett had a team-high 28 points and Chase Conner added eight.

BCS travels to Walnut Street on Friday.

Wildcats dodge Tigers, 62-48

COCOLAMUS — Josh Zahurak scored 18 points as Halifax toppled East Juniata boys hoops on Monday, 62-48.

For the Wildcats, Solly Crum had 15 points and Cody Attivo added 10. Cooper Custer chimed in with nine points.

Halifax nailed six threes in the ballgame.

For the Tigers (1-3), Wrett Smith posted a team-high 16 points and Silas Strickhouser tallied eight points. Eric Nipple had seven points and Nathan Carolus added six. EJ had two threes.

Halifax (2-1) outscored EJ in the first period, 22-8.

Next, EJ hosts Newport on Thursday at 7:30.

Juniata tops Newport, 50-40

NEWPORT — Jasper Shepps corralled 25 points as Juniata (2-2) beat Newport in boys basketball action on Monday night, 50-40.

Juniata’s Damien Vance added 10 points and Jadon Nealman tallied six points. Brian Kuhn tacked on six points.

Landon Zaring had 22 points to lead Newport’s charge. John Mayeresky posted eight points. Henry Barlup added five.

Juniata hit five threes in the road win and Newport (0-3) had four treys.

The Indians host St. Joe’s on Thursday.
