Nittany Valley Symphony to open season with ‘Dreams of the Forest’

BELLEFONTE — The Nittany Valley Symphony will open its season Sunday, Sept. 20, with “Dreams of the Forest,” a concert featuring works by Debussy, Sibelius and Brahms. The concert is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Bellefonte Area High School. Mifflin County teen dies of rare measles complication

LEWISTOWN — An unvaccinated 18-year-old Mifflin County resident died of a rare neurological complication of measles, according to county and state officials. Mifflin County now has 79 confirmed cases, the second-highest total in Pennsylvania. The Mifflin County Coroner’s Office confirmed the death Tuesday. After reviewing medical records and investigative information, Coroner Andrea L. Alcalde determined the cause of death was acute disseminated encephalomyelitis, or ADEM, a rare and severe neurological complication of measles. Mifflin County seeks municipal input on transportation safety plan

LEWISTOWN — Mifflin County officials are asking local municipalities to help identify dangerous roads, intersections and other transportation concerns as work continues on a countywide Safety Action Plan. Puzzle swap, brunch planned at Axemann Brewery

BELLEFONTE — A Puzzle Swap and Brunch will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 27, at Axemann Brewery in Bellefonte. Participants are invited to bring gently used puzzles and exchange them on a “leave a puzzle, take a puzzle” basis. Organizers ask participants to clearly mark puzzles with missing pieces and to bag the pieces inside or tape boxes closed. Casual puzzling and brunch will also be available during the event.
