LEWISTOWN -- Mifflin County officials are asking local municipalities to help identify dangerous roads, intersections and other transportation concerns as work continues on a countywide Safety Action Plan.
Mifflin County Planning Director James Lettiere recently reminded municipal officials of a meeting scheduled for 5 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, to gather local input for the plan.
The Mifflin County Planning and Development Department is developing the plan to identify transportation safety concerns, reduce serious injuries and fatalities and prioritize future safety improvements throughout the county.
The project is funded through the federal Safe Streets and Roads for All program. Once completed, the plan is expected to help guide future investments and position the county and its municipalities to pursue additional funding for transportation safety projects.
"As a local leader, you see transportation safety issues that data alone cannot capture," the invitation to municipal officials states. "Join fellow municipal officials to share your knowledge of safety concerns, challenging locations, and community needs."
Officials are being asked to identify problem areas and other community needs that may not be apparent through crash statistics and other transportation data.
The priorities developed through the planning process could strengthen the county's ability to obtain future funding and implement safety improvements throughout Mifflin County.
"Your input will help identify priority areas for improvement and ensure local perspectives help shape the Mifflin County Safety Action Plan," the invitation states.
