Submit memories for ‘I Remember When’ 2026

LEWISTOWN — The Sentinel’s “I Remember When” special edition for 2026 will soon be published. This year, we are highlighting memories of “favorite summer traditions.” Picnics, ballgames, family reunions, vacations with family and friends, fireworks, parties, amusement parks, carnivals, drives in the country, memories of the swimming hole and anything else that sparks a favorite summer memory is what we are accepting.

Share your memories (written or photo). If you have a story, memory or photo from days gone by that you would like to share, we would like to hear from you.

If you would like to submit an article or photo, please follow these guidelines:

Email submissions preferred.

Jpeg images preferred.

Include image details (names, locations, dates if possible) and a description of the event/memory.

Note: Details and brief articles must be included in the body of the email or as an attachment in Word document format. Images must be personal photos (Cannot be from websites or other publications or an image that would violate copyright laws).

Civil War Round Table to host Stones River presentation

STATE COLLEGE — The Central Pennsylvania Civil War Round Table will host a presentation on the Battle of Stones River at its monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 2, in the Activities Room at South Hills School of Business & Technology, 480 Waupelani Drive.

Featured speaker Dan Masters of Perrysburg, Ohio, will present “Pennsylvania at the Battle of Stones River,” examining the pivotal Civil War battle fought in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, from Dec. 31, 1862, to Jan. 2, 1863. The battle is noted for having one of the highest casualty rates of any major Civil War engagement.

A graduate of the University of Toledo, Masters is the descendant of five Union veterans and has authored 15 books on Civil War history. His most recent work, Hell by the Acre: A Narrative History of the Stones River Campaign, received awards from both the Atlanta Civil War Round Table and the Mahoning Valley Civil War Round Table.
