Coroner’s office names cause of death for fire victim

From staff reports

LEWISTOWN — The Mifflin County Coroner’s office identified the victim of Friday’s fire at 212 E. Third Street, Lewistown.

The cause of death for 50-year-old Elizabeth Ann Seiber was determined to be smoke inhalation and ruled accidental.

In the same fire, City Hook & Ladder Capt. Ryan Barlett confirmed that three firefighters and one fire police officer suffered injuries.

Firefighters and members of Lewistown Police Department were able to rescue two victims from the porch roof of 210/212 E. Third Street.

Firefighters spent the next hour and a half battling not only the fire in the buildings but the extreme cold temperatures as area temperatures continued to drop.

According to Barlett, the fire extended from 212 into 210 and later into 214/216 through a joined attic in that building.

Firefighters were pulled from the building at 210/212 early due to concerns for potential building collapse and rapid fire spread.

Firefighters were able to protect and save First United Methodist Church which sits adjacent to the property at 210 E. Third Street.

Several blocks around the scene were closed during the fire, including Valley Street from North Dorcas to Spruce Street, East Third Street from Valley Street to North Brown Street and North Dorcas Street from North Market Street.

Starting at $2.99/week.
