STATE COLLEGE — Chris and Nick Johnston rolled into the bicycle business five years ago when they opened the extremely-popular and ultra-successful Two Brothers Bicycle Co. in Mifflin County. Now, the brothers are giving area cyclists a two-wheeled surprise.
The brothers announced they are opening a second location in State College in mid-January, bringing the Two Brothers Bicycle Co. experience to Happy Valley.
“It was in our five-year plan to have two locations,” explained Chris Johnston, who will manage the new Centre County store. He stressed that the Burnham location, to be managed by brother Nick, will remain open.
That makes sense since the State College store, located at 1245 Benner Pike, Suite 100, is closer to Johnston’s home in Port Matilda.
Johnston said it also was a no-brainer when it came time to deciding where the Two Brothers Bicycle Co.’s second location was going to be situated. The strong presence of cyclists in State College also made it an obvious choice.

“The riding community surrounding Rothrock State Forest is phenomenal, and we want to focus on that,” Johnston explained. “Currently, our focus is on building our presence in the State College community while continuing to offer superior customer service.”
The new Two Brothers Bicycle Co. store will be slightly more than 3,100-square feet and will carry both electric and standard bicycles, including top brands like Santa Cruz, Salsa and Aventon.
Whether you’re new to biking or a seasoned rider, the brothers welcome you to shop at either of their locations, which both offer a full selection of bikes, components, service and accessories.
“I don’t believe we will take business away from the Burnham store,” Johnston said. “Instead, I think we will be able to better serve the State College community.”
The brothers started the business by buying, tuning, repairing and selling pre-owned bicycles as a fun hobby. They quickly realized that it was much more than that; it was their passion.

They love all things bikes, and they want riders to love them, too.
The Johnstons opened their original Two Brothers Bicycle Co. store on Valley Street, Lewistown, in spring of 2021. They dreamt that their business would have grown as strong as it has in such a short time. It didn’t take long for them to realize that they needed a larger location, which they found on South Logan Street in Burnham.
“We originally opened our first store in a very small space on Valley Street, but moved after a year to our location in Burnham,” Johnston recalled.
The hours for the new State location will be: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Closed on Sunday and Monday.
