Officials reorganize, elect board president
LEWISTOWN — The Mifflin County School Board of Directors held its annual reorganization meeting Thursday night and directors elected a new president.
Rose M. Salvo, who originally filled Mifflin County Commissioners Noah Wise’s vacant seat, was voted as president for one year in a roll call vote with Diane Stewart and Don Wright absent.
Director Paula Dickson nominated Salvo and director John Knepp nominated former board President Mark Baker; Baker declined the nomination.
Before this nomination and vote, directors nominated their picks for temporary board president. Baker was nominated by director John Knepp and was voted as temporary president in a roll call vote with Stewart and Wright absent.
After Salvo and Baker switched seats at the table, the remaining nominations for board vice president, Pennsylvania School Boards Association Liaison, Academy Operating Committee and other Ad Hoc Committees began.
For board vice president, Knepp nominated Baker and directors present at the meeting voted in a roll call vote for Baker to serve in the position for one year.
Board President Salvo then appointed director Brent Erb as PSBA Liaison.
Directors also nominated members to the Academy Operating Committee including:
• Stewart, nominated by director Terry Styers;
• Baker, nominated by Knepp;
• Erb, nominated by Knepp;
• Styers, nominated by Knepp;
• Salvo, nominated by Salvo, as alternate.
Then, directors present voted that the nominated members to the Academy Operating Committee serve for one year.
Ad Hoc committee appointments followed this vote. The directors appointed to the building and grounds committee were Styers, Zeb Harshbarger, Knepp and Erb.
Directors also appointed members to the curriculum and professional development committee including Stewart, Harshbarger, Wright, and Salvo.
Appointments for the policy committee include Stewart, Styers. Wright and Baker.
All directors voted in and appointed to the previously stated seats will serve in their respective positions for one year.
