Cause of fire thought to be electrical
LEWISTOWN — Emergency crews were able to extinguish a fire that broke out at a Valley Street residence Sunday.
Lewistown Fire Chief Bob Barlett said the fire started in the attic of 621 Valley St., a vacant building that was undergoing remodeling.
Bartlett said they believe the fire could have been caused by electrical issues.
Responding were City Hook and Ladder, Brooklyn Fire Department, United Fire and Rescue, Chief Logan Fire Department, Junction Fire Department, West Granville Fire Department, Lewistown Fire Department, Lewistown Police Department, FAME EMS and Penelec.
Mifflin County marching band wins region
SHAMOKIN — The Mifflin County High School marching band clinched the Tournament of Bands Group 3-A Class Region 4 title with its performance Saturday in the Susquehanna Valley Region Championship event at Kemp Memorial Field at Shamokin Area High School.
The band’s score of 92.50 keeps them in first place overall in TOB’s Group 3-A Class. Mifflin County is the No. 1 seed going into TOB’s Pennsylvania State Championship, which will be held Oct. 29 at Mansion Park in Altoona.
The final event of the season for the band will be the TOB Atlantic Coast Championship held at Hersheypark Stadium on Sunday, Nov. 6.

Fiber Festival set for Nov. 5
SPRING MILLS — The sixth annual Penns Valley Fiber Festival will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5, at the Spring Mills YMCA, 115 Streamside Place.
Admission and parking are free. Gifts will be given to the first 50 attendees.
Twelve vendors will be offering yarn, fleece, knitting and crocheting accessories, fiber crafts and related items. Most of the vendors are fiber farmers from the region.
This show also offers the opportunity to talk to the fiber farmers, hear their stories and learn about their products. Most of the products being offered for sale are handmade, hand dyed or processed on the vendors’ farms.
Most vendors will be able to accept credit cards but show officials recommend bringing some cash.
