Sen. Bob Casey’s tenure is not deserved To the Editor: Sen. Bob Casey, seeking his third reelection, lacks significant legislative accomplishments in his 18 years and is now backed by a $220,000 donation from his brother’s law firm. This raises ethical concerns, especially as the brother’s law partner has obtained a role in vetting judicial picks. Such actions cast doubt on Casey’s ethical standards and the potential influence of family ties on critical decisions. Accepting a sizable donation from a family member’s law firm raises ethical issues and erodes public trust in ...

Please appreciate bridge replacement To the Editor: I don’t know how many residents of Lewistown appreciate the appearance of the recent replacement of the bridge on South Main Street that crosses Kishacoquillas Creek. However, it is not just a bridge, it has a lot of character. I know it’s just a bridge but I think it’s a great addition to our town. Someone thought it would look better with black and red graffiti. Why does Biden think the rich don’t pay? To the Editor: Joe Biden seems to have made his campaign message, I will solve all problems by taxing the rich and the big corporations. So I ask, why can’t politicians be honest and tell the truth? Not new news, the top 1% of all taxpayers pay 46% of all income taxes collected. The top 10% pay 70%, and the bottom 50% only pay 2%. So why does Biden say the rich don’t pay? On to corporations, now I agree CEO pay is crazy high in many cases. But corporations do pay. The Trump tax cuts did lower their tax rate but it was one of the ...

How to answer call for human rights To the Editor: In Switzerland last June, a gigantic rock slide came thundering down a mountain, only to stop next to a village, instead of obliterating it. For some ladies in the village, that luck was not enough for them. They deduced that there was a continuing threat of such a disaster that would wipe out their happy homes and that they therefore should sue somebody to keep it from happening. So, they sued the government for failing to meet its carbon footprint obligations that, they said, had permitted climate change to loosen the rocks ...

April is National Sexual Assault Awareness Month To the Editor: April is National Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM). This month is set aside to raise awareness that sexual violence impacts every person in every community. This goal is achieved through raising public awareness about sexual abuse, harassment, and assault and offering education about sexual assault to our community in schools, civic groups, and the agencies of allied professionals. This year’s SAAM campaign, Building Connected Communities, calls on each of us to work together to prevent sexual abuse, ...
