Update: Coroner ID’s victim
Body of Camp Hill man recovered from river
From staff reports
McVEYTOWN — The body of a man recovered following a river search July 29 has been identified.
Dan Lynch, Mifflin County coroner, said he identified the body as Michael Stewart, 30, of Camp Hill. Lynch said Stewart was tubing along the Juniata River with friends when around 3:30 p.m. he was pulled under water by the swift current. Stewart’s cause of death was drowning, Lynch said.
Fire crews were initially called to the area of Arch Rock Lane in Bratton Township for a report of people in the Juniata River. Fire boats and public boats were on the water looking for the man, now identified as Stewart. The search was difficult due to the swift current of the river.
Pennsylvania State Police Lewistown and the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission had representatives on scene. Fire companies on scene included Brooklyn, City Hook and Ladder, Junction, Newton-Wayne, McVeytown and Mount Union.
